About

Penwood Picnic Shelter is a reservable group pavilion within Penwood State Park, a nearly 800-acre preserve gifted to Connecticut in 1944 by industrialist Curtis H. Veeder. The 24x40-foot open-air shelter accommodates up to 60 people and features 8 picnic tables and one large grill. ADA-accessible restrooms and pressurized water are located nearby. This is strictly a day-use facility. The original park donor explicitly requested that camping and campfires be excluded from all activities at Penwood State Park. The shelter may be used from 8:00 a.m. until one half-hour before sunset, and all guests must depart before dark. Amplified music, bounce houses, and other play equipment are prohibited. The picnic shelter is located approximately half a mile from the parking area. The access road to the shelter is open for vehicles from Memorial Day through the end of October. Rental fee is $150 for the day.
