About

Ledges State Park campground sits in central Iowa's Des Moines River valley, where ancient sandstone cliffs and deep wooded ravines create some of the state's most dramatic scenery. The 97-site campground accommodates everything from tent campers seeking primitive walk-in sites to RVers needing full sewer, water, and electric hookups. Modern shower and restroom facilities serve the campground, along with a dump station and playground. The park's signature sandstone ledges were carved by Pea's Creek as it cut through layers of 300-million-year-old rock, creating striking formations and forested ravines that feel surprisingly rugged for Iowa's rolling agricultural landscape. Over 4 miles of hiking trails wind through these geological features, connecting to river access points for fishing and paddling. Two reservable picnic shelters provide day-use options for groups. Reservations are required year-round and can be made up to 3 months in advance through the Iowa State Parks reservation system. The campground operates from March through November, with reduced rates during the shoulder seasons of early spring and late fall.
