About
Skunk Point Group Campground occupies a scenic spot on the Wild and Scenic portion of the Trinity River within Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Located at 1,200 feet elevation along CA Highway 299, just 1.9 miles east of Big Bar, the campground provides direct access to one of Northern California's premier river recreation corridors.
The group site accommodates up to 50 people and 15 vehicles, making it well-suited for family reunions, scout troops, or large group outings. Amenities include vault toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, and shaded sites. Campers must bring their own drinking water as no potable water is available on site.
The Trinity River offers fishing, swimming, floating, rafting, kayaking, and boating opportunities. Hand-carry boat access is available at the campground. Note that river conditions vary due to periodic releases from Lewiston Dam; current flow information is available by calling (530) 246-7594. The stretch from Pigeon Point to Big Flat is generally too dangerous for tubers and family canoeists.
