About

Silver Dollar Campground is situated near the eastern shore of Turquoise Lake in a shaded lodgepole pine and subalpine fir forest at 9,900 feet elevation. Named after the Tabor family's daughter, this family-friendly campground offers 43 single-family sites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets and trash collection are provided throughout the campground. The Turquoise Lake Nature Trail (1.2 miles) connects Silver Dollar to neighboring Molly Brown Campground, winding through the forest down to the shoreline. This trail connects to the 6.4-mile Turquoise Lake Trail paralleling the shore from Sugar Loaf Dam to May Queen Campground. On the water, boating, sailing, canoeing, and fishing are popular activities, with Matchless Boat Ramp located nearby. Anglers target stocked cutthroat, rainbow, brown, and lake trout. The nearby Mount Massive Wilderness encompasses Colorado's second-highest peak at 14,421 feet, with much of its 30,540 acres above timberline. Independence Pass, one of the highest paved mountain passes in the country at 12,095 feet, offers scenic drives along the Top of the Rockies National Scenic and Historic Byway. High altitude sickness may occur at this elevation.
