About
Sherman Reservoir State Recreation Area encompasses over 2,800 acres of water and more than 4,700 acres of surrounding land near Loup City in central Nebraska. Managed by the Bureau of Reclamation with recreation services provided by Nebraska Game and Parks, this destination draws anglers targeting walleye, crappie, white bass, northern pike, and catfish year-round. All boat types are permitted, with three ramps and three docks providing lake access.
Camping options span nine locations around the reservoir. The south side includes Trail 3, Redwood, Middle Ridge, and East Ridge offering basic non-pad sites, while Fisherman's Bridge and Trails 8, 10, and 11 provide similar options on the north side. West Ridge Campground offers the most developed experience with 61 electric sites featuring 30/50 amp service, modern restrooms, coin-operated showers, and a dump station. Sites in West Ridge accommodate rigs up to 60 feet and include four ADA-accessible sites.
Half of the electric sites at West Ridge require reservations through Nebraska State Parks; the remainder are first-come, first-served. Basic sites throughout the recreation area are $15/night peak season (May 1 through October 1) and $10/night off-season, while Electric Plus sites run $30 peak and $25 off-season. Additional RV pads and cabin rentals are available through the Trade Winds Marina concessionaire.
