Shaw House is a historic stone masonry residence located in East Cochise Stronghold within the Dragoon Mountains of the Coronado National Forest. This unique lodging experience places guests in a dramatic landscape of canyons and towering rock formations once home to the famed Chiricahua Apache chief Cochise. The cabin offers views of Rockfellow Dome and sits near world-class hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and rock climbing routes ranging from 5.6 to 5.12.
The eight-room house accommodates up to 10 people across three bedrooms featuring a queen bed, twin-over-double bunk beds, and a double futon, plus two additional futons in the living room. Two full bathrooms include showers, sinks, and flush toilets. The kitchen is fully equipped with a stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, pots, pans, utensils, dishes, and coffeepot. Climate control provides heating and air conditioning year-round.
Outside, guests can use the propane grill and picnic table, and relax on the screened porch. Guests must bring food, linens, sleeping bags, pillows, towels, dish soap, matches, toilet paper, and garbage bags. High-clearance vehicles are recommended for the access road. Cell coverage is unreliable and scorpions, snakes, and insects may be present.
Directions
From Tucson, take I-10 east to Exit 318 (Dragoon Road). Turn right onto Dragoon Road and travel approximately 10 miles to Cochise Stronghold Road. Turn right on Cochise Stronghold Road and travel approximately 6 miles to Ironwood Road where the paved road ends. Turn right on Ironwood Road and travel approximately 4 miles. Shaw House is the large rock house on the left behind a locked gate.
