About

Selby Campground sits in the heart of Carrizo Plain National Monument, California's largest remaining native grassland. This 13-site campground caters to those seeking solitude and self-reliance in a truly remote setting. Each site comes equipped with a picnic table and fire pit, and the campground includes horse corrals for equestrian visitors looking to explore the surrounding terrain on horseback. Facilities are minimal by design. A single wheelchair-accessible vault toilet serves the campground, but there is no potable water, electricity, garbage service, or hookups of any kind. Campers must bring all water supplies and pack out all trash. The nearest fuel, food, and services are well outside the monument, so arriving fully prepared is essential. The campground's appeal lies in its proximity to the Caliente Range Wilderness Study Area, which begins at the campground boundary. Hikers can step directly from their site into miles of undeveloped terrain. Spring wildflower blooms can be spectacular in wet years, and the lack of light pollution makes this an excellent location for stargazing.
