About
Miranda Pines Campground sits atop Miranda Pine Mountain at 4,000 feet elevation along the western flank of the Sierra Madre Mountains in Los Padres National Forest. This small, primitive campground features approximately 3 sites nestled among pine and oak trees with expansive vistas overlooking the Cuyama Valley below. The campground serves as a trailhead for the McPhearson Peak Trail and Aliso Trail, making it popular with hikers and backpackers exploring the surrounding wilderness. The campground is particularly popular as a hunting camp during fall season. Campers should be prepared for strong winds that frequently sweep across the exposed ridgetop location. The site requires packing out all trash as there are no trash cans or pickup service. Access is via Highway 166 to Sierra Madre Road, then Miranda Pines Road. An Adventure Pass or Interagency Pass is required for day use and camping. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a 14-day stay limit. Basic amenities include picnic tables and vault toilets, but no potable water is available on-site.
Directions
From Santa Maria: Take Highway 166 northeast for 25 miles, then Sierra Madre Ridge Road southeast for 10 miles to the campground.
