About
Rocky Rest Campground is a small riverside campground located along the Yuba Donner Scenic Byway (Highway 49) in the North Yuba River area near Downieville. The campground features 10 single-family sites situated on the north bank of the North Yuba River, where Douglas fir, pine, and oak trees provide ample shade though limited privacy between sites. Each site includes a picnic table and campfire ring. The campground serves as a trailhead for the 7.5-mile North Yuba Trail, which is open to hiking and mountain biking. The North Yuba River offers excellent opportunities for swimming at a small rocky beach and swimming hole near the campground, rainbow trout fishing, and seasonal rafting, kayaking, and tubing. The area is popular for its access to gold panning and proximity to historic gold rush era sites. Rocky Rest is located along Highway 49 near several old mining towns including Camptonville, Goodyears Bar, and Downieville. The campground lies within an area offering extensive networks of hiking, biking, and motorcycle singletrack trails, and is close to other attractions including New Bullards Bar Reservoir and Indian Valley Outpost.
