Rock Creek Campground

Open — Open year-round. No online reservations currently available; sites are reserved directly through the park or first-come, first-served. High water and seasonal bridge removal may limit access to some trails in winter.

About

Rock Creek Campground sits within Standish-Hickey State Recreation Area, the southern gateway to California's redwood country. The campground offers 35 sites in a recovering forest landscape that was clear-cut and burned in the 1940s. Located along the South Fork of the Eel River, campers have access to fishing, swimming in calm shallow areas and deep holes, and approximately 10 miles of hiking trails that wind through steep canyon bluffs and groves of old-growth redwoods, including the 225-foot Captain Miles Standish Tree. The campground is positioned just west of the Rock Creek overcrossing on Highway 101, about 1.5 miles north of Leggett in Mendocino County. While some sites near the highway experience traffic noise, the well-spaced sites offer a forested camping experience. The park encompasses over 1,000 acres with diverse Northern California ecology. High water conditions and seasonal bridge removal can limit access to parts of the park during winter months, though Rock Creek Campground remains open year-round.
