About

Redwood Campground is one of three campgrounds at Standish-Hickey State Recreation Area, located 1.5 miles north of Leggett on Highway 101. This seasonal campground provides 63 sites set among impressive old-growth coast redwoods along the designated wild and scenic South Fork Eel River. The Big Tree Trail begins at Redwood Campground, offering hikers views of the river and towering ancient trees. The campground provides standard California State Parks amenities including restrooms with hot showers, potable water, fire rings, and picnic tables at each site. Sites accommodate tents and smaller RVs up to 27 feet. No hookups are available. The recreation area spans over 1,000 acres and was established in 1922, named for Edward Ritter Hickey who died while caring for victims of the 1918 flu epidemic.
