About

Calaveras Big Trees State Park Group Campground provides an ideal setting for larger gatherings in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Established in 1931, the park preserves two groves of ancient giant sequoias alongside the Stanislaus River, Beaver Creek, volcanic formations, and natural meadows. The group campground sits across and up Highway 4 from the main park entrance, offering a more secluded experience. The facility includes two group sites: the Upper Group Camp accommodating up to 40 people with parking for 15 vehicles, and the Lower Group Camp for up to 60 people with 20-vehicle capacity. Both sites share restroom facilities equipped with coin-operated showers and running water. Standard amenities include picnic tables, fire rings, and bear lockers (4 ft x 3 ft x 2 ft) for proper food storage in this bear-active area. The campground operates seasonally from June 1 through October 31. Reservations can be made through Reserve California from 6 months to 48 hours in advance. All vehicle fees are included with the group site reservation. Dogs are permitted in the campground but must remain leashed.
