About

North Grove Campground is one of two developed campgrounds in Calaveras Big Trees State Park, located near the park entrance on Highway 4. The campground features 74 sites spread throughout a mature conifer forest that encircles the North Grove Meadow, placing campers within walking distance of some of the oldest and largest trees on Earth. Sites accommodate tents and RVs up to 30 feet in length, with each equipped with a picnic table, metal fire ring with grill, bear-proof locker, and access to water spigots. The campground provides flush toilets, token-operated showers, and a dump station for registered campers. Two mini group campsites offer double the capacity of regular sites. The location offers immediate access to the North Grove trail system, where visitors can walk among giant sequoias, some over 1,000 years old. The park visitor center and campfire center are also within easy walking distance. North Grove Campground operates year-round, making it the only campground in the park available during winter months. Proper food storage in provided bear lockers is mandatory due to active black bear populations. Each campsite accommodates up to 8 people with one vehicle included, and a second vehicle is permitted for an additional fee.
