About

Moore Creek Campground is situated in a remote section of the Stanislaus National Forest along the scenic Mokelumne River. Located approximately 38 miles east of Jackson off Highway 88, the campground requires navigating several forest roads including Ellis Road and Salt Springs Road to reach the site. This primitive campground features basic facilities and provides access to the Mokelumne River canyon and nearby wilderness areas. The campground offers a quiet, undeveloped camping experience for those seeking solitude in the Sierra Nevada foothills. The Mokelumne River provides opportunities for fishing and enjoying the natural surroundings. The area serves as a gateway to wilderness exploration, with the Mokelumne Wilderness trailhead accessible from Salt Springs Reservoir nearby. Due to its remote location and primitive nature, campers should come fully prepared with their own water supply and be ready for basic backcountry camping conditions. The campground's seasonal operation and challenging access make it best suited for experienced campers comfortable with remote forest environments.
