Leasburg Dam State Park is a quiet desert oasis situated along the Rio Grande in southern New Mexico's Chihuahuan Desert. Built around a historic diversion dam constructed in 1908, the park provides a scenic retreat at 3,962 feet elevation with views of the Robledo and Doña Ana Mountains. The 140-acre park features native plant gardens showcasing desert flora, several hiking trails, and excellent birding opportunities along the river corridor. The campground offers 23 sites across three loops: Cactus Patch with 30-amp hookups, Cholla Loop with 50-amp service, and Greasewood with a mix of electric and non-electric sites. Full hookup sites include electric, water, and sewer connections. The park has flush restrooms, showers, an RV dump station, and a playground. Two ADA-accessible sites with full hookups are available. Beyond camping, Leasburg Dam offers fishing and non-motorized boating on the reservoir, interpretive programs at the visitor center, and popular night sky programs at the park observatory. The peaceful setting and reliable amenities make it an ideal base for exploring the Las Cruces area and nearby Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument.

Directions

From Las Cruces, take I-25 north approximately 15 miles to Exit 19 (Radium Springs). Turn west onto Highway 157 and follow signs to the park entrance at 12712 State Park Road, Radium Springs, NM 88054.
