About
Vogel State Park is one of Georgia's oldest and most beloved parks, established in 1931 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Nestled at 2,500 feet elevation at the base of Blood Mountain, the park offers a quintessential Blue Ridge Mountain camping experience. The surrounding Chattahoochee National Forest provides a dramatic backdrop, and the park serves as a gateway to the Appalachian Trail via the Bear Hair Gap and Coosa Backcountry trails. The campground features 90 developed tent, trailer, and RV campsites, most with electric and water hookups. Each site includes a fire ring with grill grate and a picnic table. For those seeking a more primitive experience, 18 walk-in tent sites are available. The park also offers 34 cottages ranging from one to three bedrooms. Campground amenities include modern restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers, laundry facilities, an RV dump station, and a trading post selling firewood, supplies, and souvenirs. Beyond camping, the park offers hiking on several scenic trails, pedal boat rentals, miniature golf, a playground, and a CCC museum celebrating the park's Depression-era origins. A new 6,500-square-foot visitors center opened in 2025. Lake Trahlyta, the park's centerpiece, is currently drained for dam repairs, though all camping facilities remain fully operational.
