About

Pybus Bay Cabin sits in a protected cove about half a mile north of Donkey Bay on the remote southeast coast of Admiralty Island. The large A-frame cabin is set back 50 yards up a hill from the beach, surrounded by old-growth spruce and hemlock rainforest. The location offers excellent opportunities for humpback whale sightings, and the surrounding area hosts Sitka black-tailed deer, brown bears, migratory waterfowl, and shorebirds. The cabin accommodates up to seven guests across four single wooden bunks and a sleeping loft. Inside you'll find a cooking counter, table with benches, broom, and an oil stove for heat that burns #1 stove oil (not provided). An outhouse serves as the restroom facility. Stream water is available nearby but requires filtering, boiling, or chemical treatment before use. Visitors must bring all supplies including food, drinking water, sleeping bags and pads, a cook stove, matches, cooking gear, light source, #1 stove oil, toilet paper, first aid kit, and garbage bags. Due to the remote location, weather can extend stays by 2-5 days, so extra supplies are essential. A game trail to Donkey Bay is accessible at high tide, and there is seasonal commercial fishing activity in the bay.

Directions

Access is by float plane or boat only. Float plane flight time is approximately 1 hour 15 minutes from Juneau or 30 minutes from Petersburg. Boat access via Stephens Passage or Frederick Sound is approximately 100 miles from Juneau. Access can only occur at certain tide stages; check tides for station 9451781 before your trip. There is no mooring facility. This cabin is in designated Wilderness; access by helicopter is prohibited.
