Forest Order #2021-12 restricts camping to designated dispersed campsites marked with fire rings, developed campgrounds, or locations more than 1/4 mile from National Forest roads. WHERE...Moffat, Routt, Jackson, Grand, Rio Blanco, Garfield, Eagle, Summit, Gilpin, Clear Creek, Mesa, Pitkin, Lake, Park, Delta, Gunnison, Chaffee, Montrose, Ouray, San Miguel, Dolores, and northern parts of Montezuma and Saguache Counties. Locations include, but are not limited to Craig, Steamboat Springs, Walden, Granby, Hot Sulphur Springs, Kremmling, Meeker, Rangely, Glenwood Springs, Eagle, Vail, Breckenridge, Central City, Georgetown, Grand Junction, Aspen, Leadville, Fairplay, Delta, Gunnison, Buena Vista, Salida, Montrose, Nucla, Ouray, Telluride, Dove Creek, and Saguache. WHEN...900 AM Wednesday July 01 to 900 AM Thursday July 02 IMPACTS...Areas downwind of large fires in southwestern Colorado and southeastern Utah could have periods of moderate to heavy smoke through at least Thursday morning. About
Badger Flats Camping Area is a dispersed camping destination within the Pike National Forest, managed by the South Park Ranger District. Located approximately two miles northwest of Lake George in Park County, Colorado, this 72,049-acre management area sits at roughly 9,000 feet elevation near Wilkerson Pass. The area is accessible from Highway 24, about an hour west of Colorado Springs. Camping is permitted only at designated dispersed sites, which are clearly marked with steel fire rings serving as campsite markers. The area offers 30 designated dispersed camping areas approved for motorized access, along with over 110 miles of motorized roads and trails. Sites are primitive with no developed water, restrooms, or services. Campers must bring their own water and pack out all trash. The area is popular for OHV recreation and offers well-spaced sites that provide privacy even during busy periods. A 14-day stay limit applies within any 30-day period. Campfires are only permitted within the steel fire rings at designated sites.
Directions
From Colorado Springs, travel west on Highway 24 for approximately 45 miles. The Badger Flats area begins about two miles northwest of Lake George, accessible via forest roads branching off Highway 24 near Wilkerson Pass.
