Open — Open year-round, weather and road conditions permitting. Winter access depends on snow conditions. Camping is restricted to designated dispersed campsites marked with campsite markers or areas more than ¼ mile from forest roads.

About

Badger Flats Camping Area is a designated dispersed camping zone in Pike National Forest's South Park Ranger District, located approximately two miles northwest of Lake George. The area features 30 designated dispersed campsites marked with campsite markers, scattered throughout rolling ponderosa pine forest terrain. Under Forest Service Order 2021-12, camping is restricted to these designated sites or areas more than ¼ mile from National Forest System roads to protect natural resources and public health. The area is popular for its relatively easy access and proximity to excellent fishing opportunities including Spinney Reservoir, The Dream Stream, and Eleven Mile Reservoir. The flat and rolling terrain makes it particularly suitable for families and groups. As a dispersed camping area, there are no developed facilities, amenities, or fees. Campers must be self-sufficient and practice Leave No Trace principles, including packing out all trash. The area is accessible from Highway 24 via Forest Road 224. Due to its popularity, the area can accommodate several hundred campers during peak summer season. Off-road vehicle activity is common in the area, and campfires are allowed when fire restrictions are not in effect.

Directions

From Highway 24 near Lake George, turn onto Forest Road 224. Drive approximately one mile past initial no camping signs to reach the National Forest boundary where dispersed camping begins. Look for designated campsites marked with campsite markers.
