About
Poso Campground is a small, remote campground situated on a hillside above the South Fork of Carnero Creek in the Rio Grande National Forest's Saguache Region. The campground features 8 first-come, first-served campsites dispersed among spruce and aspen trees, each equipped with a picnic table and fire ring. Two vault toilets serve the campground, though potable water is not available. The campground serves as an excellent base camp for outdoor recreation. Carnero Creek below the campground offers fishing opportunities, while the surrounding forest roads provide access for mountain biking and OHV exploration. The area is known for light usage, providing a quiet backcountry experience. Access requires traveling on gravel and dirt roads, with County Road 41G narrowing to single-lane with turnouts after entering the National Forest. The campground operates seasonally from mid-May through mid-November, with winter access restricted by snow and seasonal road closures typically from March 15th until May 15th.
