About

Luders Creek Campground offers a quiet, lightly-used retreat in the Rio Grande National Forest at an elevation of approximately 10,000 feet. The small campground has just 5 sites, 3 of which are pull-through, set among Engelmann Spruce and quaking Aspen. Three horse corrals accommodate equestrian campers, though narrow parking means large horse trailers should be parked in the adjacent meadow near the corrals. The area is popular during big game hunting season and provides access to mountain biking and 4WD roads. The Continental Divide Trail lies just 1 mile west near Cochetopa Pass. The road to the campground follows one of the famous toll roads built by Otto Mears in 1876. This is bear country, so proper food storage is required. No potable water is available; creek water must be purified. Campfires are permitted only in designated fire rings and must be dead out and cold to touch before leaving. Dogs must be kept on a 6-foot leash.
