About
Polk Camp is a three-bedroom cabin located in Polk Inlet on Prince of Wales Island in southeastern Alaska within the Tongass National Forest. This former U.S. Forest Service administrative camp has been converted into a popular recreation cabin that offers a unique lodging experience for groups and families. The cabin features a large kitchen with a full-size propane oven and stove, plenty of counter and cupboard space, three bedrooms with two moveable beds in each, a spacious gathering room, and a large deck with exquisite views. Nestled in a canopy of young Sitka spruce and western hemlock, the cabin sits near an estuary abundant with wildlife including sandhill cranes, eagles, wolves, black bears, Sitka black-tailed deer, and migratory birds. Anglers will find exceptional fishing opportunities in Dog Salmon Creek, which features excellent runs of sockeye, coho, chum, and pink salmon, as well as cutthroat trout, rainbow trout, and Dolly Varden. Dungeness crab harvesting, beachcombing, and wildlife viewing are popular activities. Dog Salmon Fish Pass is noted as a popular bear viewing site in August. Hunters can take advantage of extended bear seasons in spring and fall, and deer season from late summer through late fall. ATV enthusiasts will enjoy the extensive road system and trails surrounding the cabin. The area also has a rich logging history visible in nearby log landings and transfer facilities. Polk Camp is ideal for family reunions, weddings, or group gatherings.
