About
Polk Camp is a three-bedroom rental cabin located in Polk Inlet on Prince of Wales Island in the Tongass National Forest of southeastern Alaska. Originally built as housing for U.S. Forest Service timber staff, the cabin now offers a unique lodging experience for outdoor enthusiasts. The spacious facility includes a large kitchen equipped with a full-size propane oven and stove, ample counter space, and a gathering room with a deck overlooking the surrounding forest. The cabin has an outhouse but no running water, so visitors must bring their own water supply. Wood may be available on site but is not guaranteed; guests should be prepared to cut their own. Visitors need to bring sleeping bags, sleeping pads, dishes, cleaning products, paper products, and fire starter. All garbage and food must be packed out. The location provides excellent opportunities for fishing, hunting, and wildlife viewing. Dog Salmon Creek offers outstanding runs of sockeye, coho, chum, and pink salmon, along with trout and Dolly Varden. Dungeness crab are plentiful in the inlet. An estuary just south of the cabin hosts sandhill cranes, eagles, wolves, black bears, Sitka black-tailed deer, and migratory birds. The area also features numerous ATV trails for off-road exploration.
