About

Bush Mountain Wilderness Campground is a primitive backcountry destination in the Guadalupe Mountains Wilderness, located 6.2 miles from Pine Springs Trailhead via the Tejas and Bush Mountain Trails. Five designated campsites are defined by tent pads in a semi-protected position just below the summit's southeast side. The location is prized for its exceptional high-elevation vistas and vivid western sunsets. This is true wilderness camping with no water, no toilets, and no services. Backpackers must carry all drinking water and pack out all trash. Campfires are strictly prohibited throughout the park due to dry conditions and high winds; only containerized fuel stoves are permitted. A landfill-safe commercial toilet bag system is required for all overnight permit holders, with proof of possession verified at permit pickup. The campground can also be reached from Dog Canyon via connecting trails. High winds are common on the exposed ridgelines, so plan accordingly. Pets are prohibited on all backcountry trails. Maximum party size is four persons per campsite, and wilderness permits are limited to seven consecutive nights.
