Bush Mountain Wilderness Campground

About

Bush Mountain Wilderness Campground is a primitive backcountry camping area in Guadalupe Mountains National Park, accessible only by foot trail. Located 6.2 miles from Pine Springs Trailhead via the Tejas and Bush Mountain Trails, the campground features five designated campsites defined by tent pads. The campground is a favorite among backpackers for its exceptional vistas and western sunsets. While the campsites at Bush Mountain are semi-protected from high winds, hikers should be prepared for difficult conditions on the exposed trails during periods of high wind activity. The campground sits in the high country of the Guadalupe Mountains Wilderness, which rises more than 5,000 feet from the surrounding Chihuahuan Desert lowlands. All wilderness camping requires a Wilderness Use Permit, which can be reserved up to three months in advance through Recreation.gov or obtained as a walk-up permit at the Pine Springs Visitor Center up to 24 hours in advance. Campers must bring all their own water, as none is available in the wilderness. Camp fires are prohibited throughout the park, and all overnight permit holders must carry commercial landfill-safe toilet bags.
