About

Picnic Vista is a day-use recreation area within Mud Mountain Dam Park, nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range in Western Washington. The facility offers unique amenities including playground equipment with a zipline, a two-foot deep wading pool perfect for summer visits, and large open fields suitable for sports and family activities. The park serves as a trailhead for over six miles of trails, including the Rim and River Trails that wind through old and new growth forests containing maples and evergreens. Hikers and mountain bikers are welcome on all trails, while horseback riders should limit their rides to the River Trail. Wildlife viewing opportunities include bald eagles flying overhead and elk browsing in the forest. Mud Mountain Dam Park provides views of Mount Rainier and the White River basin. The White River flows naturally through the dam most of the year, though visitors may notice a reservoir during winter and early spring when water is held back for flood control downstream. Park Rangers are on hand to offer their knowledge of Mud Mountain Dam and provide water safety activities. The park is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is located about six miles east of Enumclaw on Highway 410, making it easily accessible from Seattle and Tacoma within an hour's drive.

Directions

From Seattle (60 minutes): Take I-5 South to Highway 18 East, exit at Auburn/Enumclaw, take Highway 164 East through Auburn to Enumclaw, turn left onto Highway 410 East for about 6 miles, turn right onto Mud Mountain Road and continue 2.5 miles to the dam. From Tacoma (60 minutes): Take Highway 167 to Highway 410 East through Sumner, Bonney Lake, Buckley, and Enumclaw, then turn right onto Mud Mountain Road about 6 miles east of Enumclaw.
