About

Ophir Creek Campground is one of two campgrounds bookending the Nome Creek Valley on the southern edge of Alaska's White Mountains National Recreation Area, about 75 miles northeast of Fairbanks. Nestled among tall white spruce trees on the bank of Nome Creek, the campground provides 20 campsites including one group site, all available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each site features a parking area, picnic table, and fire ring. Facilities include hand pump wells, vault toilets, and trash service. An accessible toilet and hand pump are available. Firewood is not provided, and the nearest RV dump station is in Fairbanks. The campground serves as the put-in for floating Beaver Creek Wild & Scenic River and offers access to the 3-mile Table Top Mountain loop trail with views of the White Mountains' higher peaks. Fishing, gold panning, wildlife watching, and berry picking are popular activities in the area.

Directions

From Fairbanks, take the Steese Highway to mile 57. Follow U.S. Creek Road for 7 miles to Nome Creek Road. Turn left and continue 12 miles to Ophir Creek Campground.
