About

Mount Prindle Campground is one of two campgrounds in Nome Creek Valley on the southern edge of the White Mountains National Recreation Area. The campground's 13 sites are situated among tall willow shrubs below expansive alpine tundra meadows and Mount Prindle, which rises to 5,286 feet. The remote location makes it an ideal base camp for trips into the high country. From the campground, visitors can explore the nearby Quartz Creek Trail, try gold panning in Nome Creek, or venture into the alpine terrain above. Each campsite includes a parking area, picnic table, and fire ring. During the operating season, the campground provides hand pump wells for water, trash service, and outhouse-style toilets. Firewood is not provided. Access requires driving the Steese Highway to mile 57, then following U.S. Creek Road for seven miles to Nome Creek Road. From that junction, it's 4 miles to the campground and Quartz Creek Trailhead. The nearest services and RV dump station are in Fairbanks. All sites are first-come-first-served with no advance reservations.

Directions

From Fairbanks, take the Steese Highway to mile 57 and follow U.S. Creek Road for 7 miles to Nome Creek Road. Turn right at the junction and continue 4 miles to Mount Prindle Campground at the upper end of Nome Creek Valley.
