About

One Mile Campground is located 18 miles from Gunnison in the scenic Taylor River Canyon, nestled among lodgepole pine and aspen at 8,600 feet elevation. The 25 campsites offer a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served options, with electric hookups available at most sites. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets are provided, but potable water is not available; campers should bring their own water or fill up at nearby Lottis Creek Campground. The Taylor River runs directly alongside the campground, offering excellent opportunities for rafting, kayaking, and fishing for rainbow and brook trout. The surrounding area provides access to the Fossil Ridge Wilderness via the Summerville and South Lottis trailheads. Mountain biking, rock climbing, and horseback riding are also popular activities in the canyon. Taylor Park Reservoir is approximately 13 miles north and offers boating, swimming, and additional fishing. The nearest RV dump station is about 16 miles north. Summer days are warm with cool nights typical of high-elevation Colorado.

Directions

From Gunnison, travel north on Colorado Highway 135 for 10 miles to Almont. Turn right onto Taylor Canyon Road (County Road 742) and proceed about 8 miles to the campground entrance on the right.
