About

Lodgepole Campground sits along the Taylor River in a dense stand of lodgepole pines that provide ample shade and privacy between sites. Located 22 miles northeast of Gunnison in Taylor River Canyon, the campground offers direct river access for fishing and paddling. Anglers target rainbow and brook trout in the river, while kayakers and rafters enjoy the relatively calm stretches of water. The Fossil Ridge Wilderness Area lies just one mile south, accessible via the Summerville and South Lottis trailheads. Several off-road trails are also nearby, including Doctor Park Trail, Taylor River Trail, and Taylor Vista Trail. Taylor Park Reservoir is within 10 miles, offering additional boating, fishing, and swimming opportunities with boat ramps and rentals available. The campground has 16 sites, a mix of standard nonelectric and tent-only sites. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. Vault toilets and potable water via hand pump are provided. Sites are a combination of first-come-first-served and reservable through Recreation.gov.

Directions

From Gunnison, travel north on Highway 135 for 10 miles to Almont. Turn right (northeast) onto Taylor Canyon Road (County Road 742) and proceed 12 miles to the campground entrance on the right.
