About

Set against the dramatic Sacramento Mountains, Oliver Lee Memorial State Park provides a quiet desert camping experience in the Chihuahuan Desert. The campground sits at the mouth of Dog Canyon and features large, level campsites surrounded by desert grasses, mesquite, ocotillo, creosote, yucca, and various cacti species. The park offers access to hiking trails through Dog Canyon, which features unique oasis pools under cottonwood trees. Visitors can tour Oliver Lee's restored 19th-century ranch house and explore extensive exhibits at the visitor center that showcase the natural and human history of the area. Located just 12 miles southeast of Alamogordo, the park combines desert scenery with mountain views and opportunities for wildlife viewing.
