About

Observation Point Picnic Shelter sits at the New Hogan Lake Park Headquarters in the oak- and brush-covered foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The facility features a large shade shelter with fixed picnic tables on a concrete foundation, providing seating for approximately 75 people with room for additional tables. A large freestanding BBQ grill, electrical outlet, and trash/recycle receptacles are included. The shared parking lot provides easy access to flush restrooms, drinking fountains, horseshoe pits, and a playground. The shelter offers panoramic views of New Hogan Lake and Dam. New Hogan Lake is a 4,400-acre reservoir created in 1964, with 50 miles of shoreline when full. The area is characterized by warm, dry summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 90 degrees. Wildlife is abundant on the surrounding US Army Corps of Engineers land, with opportunities to spot black-tailed deer, wild turkeys, bald and golden eagles, osprey, and other species. Fishing is permitted year-round in the lake, with popular catches including striped bass, black bass, catfish, bluegill, and crappie.
