About

Acorn Campground sits on a sunny hillside in the Sierra Nevada foothills overlooking New Hogan Lake, a 4,400-acre reservoir created by New Hogan Dam on the Calaveras River. The campground is managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers and offers 128 spacious campsites spread across the terrain, providing moderate privacy and shade. Each site features a picnic table, fire ring, and paved driveway up to 48 feet in length. The campground provides modern amenities including accessible flush toilets, coin-operated showers, and drinking water spigots throughout. A dump station is available during peak recreation season. Sites accommodate tents, RVs up to 40 feet, and trailers up to 36 feet. All sites are standard nonelectric with back-in access. New Hogan Lake is a hub for water recreation with boat ramps located around the shoreline. Visitors enjoy fishing year-round for striped bass, largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, and catfish. The area also offers an 8-mile equestrian loop trail, mountain bike trails, and the River of Skulls hiking trail below the dam. Wildlife viewing is popular on the south shore, where bald eagles winter alongside grey fox, mule deer, and wild turkey.
