...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 6 PM MST ACROSS EAST CENTRAL NEW MEXICO DUE TO STRONG WINDS AND LOW HUMIDITY... ..Stronger winds will develop today with very dry air also moving in. This will create critical fire weather and a higher risk for rapid fire spread. The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Red Flag Warning...which is in effect from 11 AM this morning to 6 PM MST this evening. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. * AREA AND TIMING...This includes much of northeastern and east central New Mexico (Fire Weather Zones 104, 123, 125, and 126) with the greatest area of concern focused in San Miguel, Guadalupe, Quay, and Curry counties. The warning is in effect from 11 AM through 6 PM MST Monday. * 20 FOOT WINDS...Sustained from the west and southwest at 20 to 25 mph with occasional gusts up to 35 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...Falling to 7 to 13 percent in the late afternoon Monday. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

Oasis State Park is a serene 193-acre desert oasis set among cottonwood trees, shifting sand dunes, and a small fishing lake in Roosevelt County, New Mexico. Located 6.5 miles north of Portales, this park offers a peaceful retreat with 29 developed campsites ranging from water-only sites to full hookups with 50-amp service. The campground is shaded by cottonwood trees, providing a comfortable camping environment in the arid New Mexico landscape. Fishing is the park's main draw, with a man-made pond stocked for year-round angling. Several hiking and mountain biking trails wind through the park's unique landscape of sand dunes and riparian habitat. The park is particularly notable for its abundance of birds, making it a popular destination for birdwatching, especially at sunrise. Fall and winter months bring diverse waterfowl species to the pond. Facilities include clean restrooms with showers, a visitor center with exhibits, a playground, group picnic shelter, and a dump station. The park welcomes equestrian activities and offers both reservable and first-come, first-served campsites. With its combination of fishing, trails, and peaceful camping, Oasis State Park provides a true desert oasis experience for outdoor enthusiasts.

From Portales, take NM 467 north for 6.5 miles to Oasis Road. From Clovis, take NM 60/84 west 1 mile to NM 467, then south 15 miles to Oasis Road.
