About
Calaveras Big Trees State Park Group Campground consists of two distinct group camping areas situated across and up Highway 4 from the main park entrance. The Upper Group Camp can accommodate up to 40 people and 15 vehicles, while the Lower Group Camp is larger, accommodating up to 60 people and 20 vehicles. Both sites share centralized restroom facilities equipped with coin-operated showers and running water. All vehicle fees are included with the group campsite reservation fee. Each group site provides essential amenities including picnic tables, fire rings, and bear-proof lockers. The bear lockers are critical for proper food storage in this area with an active black bear population. All food, beverages, scented items, and toiletries must be stored in the provided bear lockers when not in active use. The campground is located within Calaveras Big Trees State Park, home to two groves of giant sequoias and surrounded by mature conifer forests. The group campground is situated at approximately 4,600 feet elevation in the Sierra Nevada. Reservations are typically made through Reserve California and can be booked 6 months to 48 hours in advance. The campground offers no hookups (dry camping only) and is designed specifically for larger organized groups seeking to experience the majestic giant sequoias.
