About
Lindsey Lake Campground is a primitive, remote campground located on the shores of Lindsey Lake at 6,200 feet elevation in the Tahoe National Forest. Operated by PG&E, this 12-site campground serves as a gateway to the Grouse Ridge Non-Motorized Area and provides access to excellent fishing, swimming, and hiking opportunities. The campground features vault toilets, picnic tables, fire rings, and grills at each site, but no piped water or trash service is available. Campers must treat or filter water from nearby sources and pack out all trash. Access to the campground requires driving Bowman Lake Road for 6 miles to the Carr Lake turnoff, then 2 miles before turning left toward Lindsey Lake for another 10 miles. The access road is rough, narrow, and rocky, making high clearance vehicles strongly recommended. Low clearance vehicles are not advised. The remote location and challenging access contribute to a primitive camping experience in a scenic granite landscape surrounded by conifers. The lake allows boating with a 10 MPH speed limit.
Directions
From Nevada City: Take Highway 20 east toward Truckee for approximately 20 miles. Turn left on Bowman Lake Road (Forest Road 18). Continue for 6 miles and turn right on Forest Road 17. Continue for 2 miles, then take the left fork for 2 miles to the campground. From I-80: Take Highway 20 cutoff west toward Nevada City for approximately 5 miles. Turn right on Bowman Lake Road (Forest Road 18) and follow the same directions. The road is very rough, narrow, and rocky. High clearance vehicles are required.
