About

Lindsey Lake Campground is a primitive 12-site campground operated by PG&E and managed by American Lands & Leisure, located in the Yuba River Ranger District of Tahoe National Forest. The campground sits near Lindsey Lake, approximately 12 miles north of Highway 20, offering access to excellent backcountry fishing, swimming, and hiking. An informal boat launch provides access for non-motorized watercraft. Facilities are minimal: vault toilets are available, but there is no potable water (campers must filter or treat water from the lake) and no trash service (pack-in, pack-out). The campground has no hookups, showers, or dump station. Sites cost $15 per night and require cash or check payment. Access is challenging. From Bowman Lake Road (Forest Road 18), take Forest Road 17 for 2 miles, then the left fork for another 2 miles on a very rough, narrow road. Low-clearance vehicles are strongly discouraged. Check-in is at 2:00 p.m., check-out at noon, with quiet hours from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Directions

From Nevada City: Take Highway 20 east toward Truckee for approximately 20 miles. Turn left on Bowman Lake Road (Forest Road 18). Continue 6 miles and turn right on Forest Road 17. Continue 2 miles, then take the left fork for 2 miles on a very rough, narrow road to the campground. From I-80: Take the Highway 20 cutoff west toward Nevada City for approximately 5 miles. Turn right on Bowman Lake Road (Forest Road 18) and follow the same directions above.
