Fire Weather Watch issued December 29 at 10:46PM EST until December 30 at 7:00PM EST by NWS Greenville-Spartanburg SC

December 29th, 10:46 PM — 7:00 AM

...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM EST TUESDAY UNTIL 7 PM EST TUESDAY FOR LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY ACROSS NORTHEAST GEORGIA... .Very dry conditions are expected to develop across northeast Georgia on Tuesday afternoon, with relative humidity dropping as low as 20% (and isolated locations potentially dropping below 20%). Winds will remain breezy on Tuesday, though not as breezy as today, with gusts of 20-25mph possible throughout most of the day. Fine dead fuel moisture is expected to to fall below 10%, and land managers have expressed concern about these coinciding conditions. Although winds do not technically meet strict RFW criteria, the combination of dry fuels, low relative humidity, and breezy winds will nonetheless be favorable for rapid spread of wildfires across the warned area. * AFFECTED AREA...Rabun, Habersham, Stephens, Franklin, Hart and Elbert. * TIMING...From Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday evening. * WINDS...Northwest 5 to 10 mph. * HUMIDITY...Values as low as 20% are expected. * FUEL MOISTURE...10-hour fuel moisture expected to fall below 10% Tuesday afternoon. * IMPACTS...Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

About

Nancytown Group Campground is situated in the southeastern portion of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest in Habersham County, Georgia, at the northern point of the state. The campground is adjacent to Nancytown Lake, which drains into the much larger Lake Russell, and is located near the Lake Russell Wildlife Management Area. The area offers excellent opportunities for group camping, fishing, and outdoor recreation. The nearby waters provide multiple opportunities for anglers to catch trout in rivers and streams, while Nancytown Lake is popular for boating. Hikers can explore the short and scenic Nancytown Trail that begins at the nearby dam and circles the lake. The site also provides access to the 6.2-mile Ladyslipper hiking and horseback riding trail, as well as the Sourwood bike and hiking trail, which is a 2.7-mile hike leading to several waterfalls. As a group campground, Nancytown is designed to accommodate larger parties and families looking to enjoy the outdoors together. The campground's location within the national forest provides a peaceful setting surrounded by natural beauty, making it an ideal base for exploring the recreational opportunities of the Lake Russell area.
