Mississippi River Campground sits within Trail of Tears State Park on the banks of the Mississippi River near Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The campground offers a variety of site types including basic sites, electric hookup sites, and full hookup sites with water, electric, and sewer connections. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and fire ring with grill. The campground is nestled in a wooded area providing shade and natural beauty. The park provides modern amenities including flush toilets, hot showers, laundry facilities, and a dump station for RV campers. Recreational opportunities abound with access to fishing in both the Mississippi River and 20-acre Lake Boutin, which is stocked with bass, bluegill, and catfish. Over 13 miles of hiking and horseback riding trails wind through the park, with some following the river bluff offering spectacular views. The park's visitor center features exhibits interpreting the historic Trail of Tears and the area's natural features. Additional park amenities include a swimming beach at Lake Boutin, boat launch for Mississippi River access, picnic areas, pavilions, and an observation deck with sweeping views of the Mississippi River and Illinois beyond. The campground is open year-round, though some water amenities are turned off during winter months. Reservations can be made up to 12 months in advance through the Missouri State Parks reservation system.

Directions

From Jackson, Missouri, take Highway 177 north for approximately 10 miles to reach Trail of Tears State Park. Follow park signs to the Mississippi River Campground.
