About

Mississippi River Campground is located within Trail of Tears State Park, which preserves the historic crossing point where nine Cherokee detachments crossed the Mississippi River during the forced relocation to Oklahoma in the winter of 1838-1839. The campground sits directly along the Mississippi River, offering sites ranging from basic wooded sites to full-hookup sites with sewer, electric, and water connections. Facilities include modern restrooms with hot showers, vault toilets, a dump station, boat ramp, and a wood lot. The campground operates year-round, though services are reduced during the off-season (November through March) when water is shut off for hookup sites and showerhouses close. Potable water remains available at a frost-free spigot near the dump station during winter months. The park offers excellent wildlife viewing opportunities including white-tailed deer, turkeys, hawks, foxes, and wintering bald eagles. Nearby Lake Boutin (15 acres, electric motors only) and the Mississippi River provide fishing access. Hiking and equestrian trails traverse the 1,300-acre Indian Creek Wild Area.
