About
Metcalf Bottoms Picnic Pavilion provides a peaceful mountain setting along the Little River in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Located at 1,680 feet elevation between Gatlinburg and Townsend, the covered pavilion accommodates up to 70 guests and features multiple charcoal grills. The pavilion can be reserved for morning or evening blocks through Recreation.gov. The surrounding picnic area includes 122 total sites, with the pavilion and north loop open mid-April to late October, while part of the south loop remains accessible year-round. Visitors enjoy fishing in the Little River (license required), hiking on nearby trails including the route to Little Greenbrier School and Walker Sisters Place, and wildlife viewing in bear country. The area sits near Elkmont and provides central access to park attractions. The Metcalf bridge has a 10-ton weight limit, prohibiting buses, motorhomes, and trailers. Dumpsters are removed late-October to late-March, requiring visitors to pack out all trash during winter months. Potable water is available at restrooms but not at the pavilion. This is a day-use facility with no overnight camping permitted.
