About

The Appalachian Clubhouse is a historic building originally constructed in 1934 after a fire destroyed the previous structure. Located in the Elkmont Historic District's southern portion, known as Daisy Town, the clubhouse served as a gathering place for members of the Appalachian Club, mostly from Knoxville, who built weekend and summer retreats in the area before Great Smoky Mountains National Park was established. The National Park Service has carefully rehabilitated the 3,000 square foot structure to closely resemble its 1930s appearance while adding select modern amenities including electricity and running water. The building features an open meeting hall with exposed wooden beams, massive stone fireplaces equipped with gas logs at each end, period-style light fixtures, and French doors opening onto a broad covered porch with rocking chairs. Modern restrooms are located just a few yards from the building. Today the clubhouse provides a unique venue for meetings, events, and celebrations, though it remains quite rustic compared to most modern facilities. Renters must bring all supplies including tablecloths, tableware, projectors, screens, extension cords, and paper towels. Decorations cannot be pinned or taped anywhere in the park. The facility includes 15 reserved parking spaces that do not require a parking tag during rental periods. Weddings and wedding photography require an additional Special Use Permit. The clubhouse is surrounded by lush forests and steep ridges of the Upper Little River Valley, with the Jakes Creek and Little River trailheads located nearby.
