Medoc Mountain State Park

Medoc Mountain State Park sits atop a 325-foot mountain remnant in Halifax County, approximately 30 miles northwest of Rocky Mount. The geological formation dates back 350 million years, creating a distinctive landscape along Little Fishing Creek. The campground offers 46 sites across multiple categories: primitive equestrian sites, standard non-electric sites, and electric sites with 50-amp hookups. Family cabins and group camping areas are also available. The campground features modern amenities including a bathhouse with warm showers and flush toilets, drinking water spigots throughout, and a dump station for RVs. Each campsite includes a fire ring and picnic table. Sites accommodate equipment lengths from 50 to 78 feet depending on the specific site, with both back-in and pull-through driveway options available. Beyond camping, visitors can explore 29 miles of hiking trails, 9 miles of mountain biking trails, and 10 miles of equestrian trails. Little Fishing Creek provides opportunities for fishing and paddling. The visitor center offers exhibits and interpretive programs. The park is open year-round, closing only on Christmas Day.
