About

North Bend Park Osage Picnic Shelter is located within North Bend Park, the largest park on John H. Kerr Reservoir in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. The shelter provides a shaded group gathering area in a forested setting near an accessible fishing pier and restroom facilities. The park sits on Kerr Reservoir, also known as Buggs Island Lake, a 50,000-acre lake created by the John H. Kerr Dam in 1952. The reservoir extends 39 miles along the wooded, cove-studded shoreline of the Roanoke River across Virginia and North Carolina, offering 800 miles of shoreline. The area is known for fishing, with largemouth bass, striped bass, crappie, and flathead catfish available. Several trails are within a short drive, including the 1.5-mile Liberty Nature Trail and 5.5-mile Robert Munford Trail. Wildlife viewing opportunities include bald eagles, osprey, great blue herons, and waterfowl, particularly at nearby Tailrace Park below Kerr Dam.
