About

MacNab Pond Campground is a small, primitive recreation area located in the Ekalaka Hills Unit of the Custer Gallatin National Forest's Sioux Ranger District. Situated in the remote prairies of southeastern Montana near Ekalaka, this site offers a quiet escape with dispersed camping opportunities for up to 2 units. The main attraction is the stocked fishing pond, which contains populations of crappie, bass, and rainbow trout, making it a popular spot for family fishing and day use picnicking. The area is surrounded by pristine prairie landscape with ponderosa pine, deciduous trees, and berry bushes. Camping here is primitive and dispersed, with an accessible vault toilet but no potable water or other developed amenities. Open year-round weather dependent, MacNab Pond provides a no-fee camping and recreation option for those seeking a low-key outdoor experience. Access is via Forest Road 402 and MacNab Pond Road, approximately 7.5 miles from Ekalaka. Campers should come prepared with their own water and supplies, as this is a remote location with minimal services.
