About

MacNab Pond is a small, remote recreation site in the Ekalaka Hills Unit of the Sioux Ranger District, located in the southeastern corner of Montana near the South Dakota border. The site functions primarily as a day-use area for fishing and picnicking, but dispersed camping is permitted for those seeking a primitive, off-grid experience. Facilities are minimal: the site has an accessible vault toilet and open parking, but no potable water, firewood, or trash service. This is a pack-it-out location. The pond offers fishing opportunities and the surrounding grassland terrain provides a quiet, uncrowded setting typical of the isolated land units on the Sioux Ranger District. There are no fees to use MacNab Pond. Access requires navigating forest roads south of Ekalaka, and conditions may vary with weather. The remote location means services and supplies should be obtained in Ekalaka before arrival.

Directions

From Ekalaka, MT go 7 miles southeast on MT-323. Turn left on Forest Road 402 (Prairiedale Road) and go approximately 0.5 mile north. Turn left on MacNab Pond Road and follow to the site.
