About
Ekalaka Park Campground is a small, primitive campground tucked into the scenic Ekalaka Hills Unit on the Sioux Ranger District of Custer Gallatin National Forest. With just 7 campsites and two day-use picnic areas, this lightly-used destination offers solitude and natural beauty in Montana's southeastern prairie country.
The Ekalaka Hills feature ponderosa pine savanna uplands with scenic cliff drop-offs and stunning cliff-edge views overlooking the surrounding prairie landscape. The area provides opportunities for day hiking, picnicking, and wildlife viewing in a remote setting. A spring with non-potable water is located nearby, though campers must bring their own drinking water.
This is a no-frills campground managed on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. There are no fees, no trash pickup, no firewood sales, and limited facilities. Small trailers are accommodated, but space is limited. With a 16-day stay limit and accessible vault toilets, Ekalaka Park provides an authentic backcountry camping experience for those seeking quiet and scenic beauty away from developed campgrounds.
