WHEN...900 AM Friday August 07 to 900 AM Saturday August 08 IMPACTS...Moderate to heavy smoke from fires in southwestern Colorado will impact the advisory area through at least Saturday morning. The heaviest smoke is expected for locations in close vicinity to the Elk fire located in northern Hinsdale County, especially along Highway 149 north of Lake City during the morning hours. HEALTH INFORMATION...Public Health Recommendations: Increasing likelihood of respiratory symptoms in sensitive individuals, aggravation of heart or lung disease and premature mortality in people with cardiopulmonary disease and older adults. Snowblind Campground is a first-come, first-served campground located in the Gunnison National Forest, positioned just west of the Continental Divide at an elevation of approximately 10,400 feet. The campground provides 23 campsites in a scenic mountainous setting, offering a rustic camping experience for those seeking solitude and access to backcountry recreation. The campground features vault toilets and a hand pump for drinking water. Payment can be made on-site via QR code using the Recreation.gov mobile app's Scan and Pay feature. Due to the remote location, cellular service may be limited, so downloading the app in advance is recommended. Recreation opportunities include four-wheel driving and OHV/ATV scenic driving on nearby forest roads. The area provides access to high-elevation terrain typical of the Continental Divide region. Quiet hours are observed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
