About
Kegan Cove Cabin offers a remote wilderness lodging experience on Prince of Wales Island in southeastern Alaska. The 16x18 foot log cabin, constructed from yellow cedar and Sitka spruce, sits in a protected saltwater cove on Moira Sound. The surrounding coastal terrain is covered in Sitka spruce and western hemlock forest, with a 100-foot tidal flat emerging at low tide. The cabin sleeps up to six people in wooden bunkbeds and is equipped with a wood stove for heat, a table with benches, cooking counter, shelves, and cupboard space. An outhouse provides sanitation. There is no running water or electricity; visitors must bring their own water supply or treat water from Kegan Creek. The location is prime for fishing, with salmon runs drawing anglers and black bears to Kegan Creek. Rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, Dolly Varden, char, and salmon are found in nearby lakes and streams. A half-mile trail along Kegan Creek connects the cove to Kegan Lake. Wildlife is abundant, including eagles, shorebirds, Sitka black-tailed deer, and black bears.
Directions
Access by float plane or boat at high tide only. Located approximately 30 air miles from Ketchikan and 51 air miles from Craig, Alaska. A mooring buoy in the bay is available first-come, first-served. Refer to USGS Craig A-1 map.
