The cabin sits along the Katzehin River in a region characterized by dense temperate rainforest, rugged mountains, and abundant wildlife. The Tongass National Forest is the largest national forest in the United States, covering nearly 17 million acres of Southeast Alaska. This area is known for its glimmering rainforests, glaciers, icefields, and extensive waterways. Visitors to the Katzehin River Cabin can experience true Alaska wilderness, with opportunities for wildlife viewing, fishing, and exploring the surrounding forest. As with all areas in the Tongass, visitors should be prepared for bear encounters and practice proper bear safety. Access to remote cabins in this region typically requires boat or floatplane, making the journey to Katzehin River Cabin an adventure in itself. Visitors should come prepared with all necessary supplies, as these remote facilities offer only basic shelter and amenities.

Directions

The Katzehin River is located in Haines Borough, Alaska, approximately 18 miles south of Skagway. Access to the area is typically via boat or floatplane, as there are no established roads leading directly to the river. The river flows westward from the terminus of the Meade Glacier into the Chilkoot Inlet.
