About
Katzehin River Cabin is a rustic Forest Service recreational cabin situated along the Katzehin River in the Tongass National Forest, approximately 18 miles south of Skagway and 6 miles from Haines, Alaska. The cabin provides a remote wilderness experience in one of the most spectacular temperate rainforest environments in North America. Access to the cabin is by boat or float plane only, making it a true backcountry destination. The surrounding area offers excellent opportunities for fishing, with the Katzehin River known for salmon and trout runs. Wildlife viewing is exceptional, with bears commonly spotted in the area, particularly during salmon season. The landscape features dramatic views of glaciers and the Coast Mountains. As with all Tongass National Forest cabins, this is a primitive facility where visitors must be fully self-sufficient. Guests should bring their own sleeping bags, food, water or water treatment supplies, cooking equipment, and heating fuel. The cabin provides basic shelter in an otherwise remote wilderness setting.
