About

Hope Valley Campground is situated in its namesake valley at an elevation of 7,300 feet in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, just 40 minutes south of Lake Tahoe. The campground is surrounded by Jeffrey and lodgepole pines and offers views of the scenic valley and surrounding forested mountains. This tent and RV-friendly campground has been completely reconstructed with all new single and double-family campsites. Each site includes picnic tables, campfire rings, grills, food storage lockers, and tent pads. Vault toilets, garbage service, and drinking water from a hand pump are provided. Firewood is available for purchase from the camp host. The West Fork Carson River runs nearby, offering excellent rainbow and cutthroat trout fishing opportunities. Numerous trails in the area provide hiking and backpacking access to the surrounding wilderness. The campground is located on Blue Lakes Road, approximately 1.5 miles from Highway 88. Black bears frequent the area, and all food must be stored in provided lockers or approved containers. A free California Camp Fire Permit is required for campfire and stove use.

Directions

From Carson City or Minden, Nevada: Take Highway 88 approximately 21 miles to Blue Lakes Road, about 2 miles west of the Highway 89/Luther Pass junction. Turn left on Blue Lakes Road and travel approximately 1.5 miles to the campground entrance on the right. From South Lake Tahoe: Take Highway 89 over Luther Pass to the junction with Highway 88, turn right and travel 2 miles west, then turn south onto Blue Lakes Road.
