About

Mesa Campground provides a scenic retreat perched on a mesa above Lake Roberts in the Gila National Forest. Nestled among juniper and pinon trees, the campground features sites along the bluff with excellent views of the 70-acre lake below. The facility offers 24 campsites, with 12 sites equipped with water and electric hookups for RVs and trailers. The campground provides modern amenities including heated restrooms with flush toilets, potable water, picnic tables, grills, and garbage facilities. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. The maximum RV length is 32 feet for most sites, though two sites can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations. Located within the Lake Roberts Recreation Area, the campground is popular among birders due to migrating birds in the campground and waterfowl on the lake. Lake Roberts offers fishing opportunities and is approximately two miles from the campground. The area serves as a convenient base for exploring the Gila National Forest and is within easy driving distance of historic Silver City. A 14-day stay limit applies to all sites.

Directions

From Silver City, follow U.S. Highway 180 east approximately 9 miles to New Mexico Highway 152, turning left onto Highway 152 for about 15 miles to New Mexico Highway 35. Turn left/north on Highway 35, following it for 25 miles to Lake Roberts, following the sign for Mesa Campground. Turn left into the signed campground. Note: New Mexico Highway 152 between San Lorenzo and Kingston has steep grades and tight turns. Trucks without retarder brakes and/or longer than 40 feet are prohibited on this section.
