About

Upper End Campground is a developed Forest Service campground situated in the scenic Lake Roberts Recreation Area within the Gila National Forest. Located at 6,050 feet elevation along New Mexico Highway 35, this popular campground offers 12 well-spaced campsites, each equipped with a picnic table and fire grill. The campground provides vault toilets and seasonal potable water service, though the water system is typically shut off during winter months due to freezing temperatures. The campground's location makes it an ideal base for fishing at Lake Roberts, a 70-acre man-made lake stocked with rainbow trout and catfish. Nearby recreation opportunities include the Purgatory Chasm Trail, a 2.1-mile loop hike, and the Lake Roberts Trail. The Continental Divide Trail is also accessible from the area. The Lake Roberts General Store is located on the north side of the lake for supplies. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no reservations accepted. A 14-day stay limit applies, and fires are permitted only in provided grills when fire restrictions are not in effect.
