About

Upper End Campground is a quiet, primitive camping destination within the Lake Roberts Recreation Area of Gila National Forest in southwestern New Mexico. Located at 6,050 feet elevation along scenic New Mexico Highway 35, the campground provides a forested setting with easy access to the surrounding wilderness. Each site features a fire grill and picnic table, with vault toilets and trash service available throughout the campground. Trail #801 begins at the western edge of the campground and runs approximately 1.75 miles to the Lake Roberts Boat Launch, offering a pleasant woodland hike. Wildlife viewing is excellent here, with deer regularly passing through and diverse bird species making this a popular spot for birders. Dead and downed wood may be collected for campfires when fire restrictions permit. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis with a $15 nightly fee paid via self-service envelope at the entrance kiosk. A 14-day stay limit applies, and each site accommodates a maximum of two vehicles. Pets are welcome but must remain leashed. OHV/ATV use, hunting, shooting, and stock animals are prohibited within the campground.
