About

Located in the 53,587-acre Goethe State Forest in Levy County, Black Prong Primitive Campsites provides rustic camping near the Black Prong Trailhead. The campground features five campsites accommodating up to eight people each, including one tent-only site, three sites suitable for RVs or tents, and a pavilion that can accommodate larger groups. This is true primitive camping with no water or electric hookups available at the sites. The campground serves as a gateway to over 100 miles of trails traversing the state forest, making it particularly popular with equestrians, hikers, and mountain bikers. The forest encompasses diverse ecosystems including pine flatwoods, cypress domes, and freshwater creeks. Wildlife viewing opportunities abound, with the area being part of the Goethe Wildlife Management Area. Campers share the forest with regulated hunting activities during designated seasons, so checking the hunting calendar before visiting is recommended. A restroom is located in the day-use parking area adjacent to the campsites, though no showers are available. The forest is open during daylight hours, and all visitors must possess either a day pass or annual Florida State Forest pass.
