About

Black Prong Primitive Campsites sits within Goethe State Forest, one of Florida's largest state forests spanning over 53,000 acres in Levy County. The campground offers five designated sites: one tent-only site, three sites accommodating RVs or tents, and a group pavilion. Each site includes a fire ring, grill, and picnic table. A shared restroom is located in the day-use parking area adjacent to the campsites. This is primitive camping with no potable water or electrical hookups available. Campers should come fully prepared with their own water supply and gear. The campground functions as a trailhead for the Black Prong trail system, which connects to over 100 miles of multi-use trails traversing pine flatwoods, sandhills, and wetland habitats throughout the forest. The area sees high equestrian use and is popular with horseback riders, mountain bikers, and hikers. Hunting occurs on the state forest during designated seasons, so campers should verify hunting dates before visiting. The forest also offers excellent opportunities for bird watching, wildlife photography, and stargazing in the dark rural skies.
