About
Florida Campground is located 4 miles north of Miller Creek Campground along the swift-flowing Florida River near the north end of Lemon Reservoir in southwestern Colorado's San Juan National Forest. This lightly used campground features 20 first-come, first-served campsites nestled in a shady forest of Colorado blue spruce, Douglas fir, and aspen trees. A few short pull-through and back-in sites can accommodate RVs up to 25 feet. The campground offers potable water, vault toilets, trash pickup, picnic tables, and fire grates during the operating season. The Florida River is well known for its rainbow and brown trout fishing, though anglers should note that the river runs through much private land requiring careful attention to property boundaries. Lemon Reservoir, about three miles from the campground, provides additional fishing opportunities for stocked rainbow trout and kokanee salmon, along with boating and water skiing. Hiking and biking are popular activities in the area, with the Burnt Timber Trail beginning at Transfer Park about a mile north of the campground. The East Florida Road winds steeply uphill past the campground, providing access to Lost Lake and Stump Lake Trails, which offer short, easy hikes to backcountry lakes. The surrounding forest is open to public hunting for deer, elk, and small game. The Florida Group Area, located just beyond the regular camping area, can be reserved through Recreation.gov and accommodates up to 75 people with 6 double tables, a buffet table, and 4 fire grates. RV parking at the group site is limited. Private property adjoins the campground on the south side and visitors must not trespass. Between September and May, no services are provided including water, trash pickup, or restrooms, and visitors must pack out all trash.
