Special Weather Statement issued March 3 at 10:02PM EST by NWS Jacksonville FL

March 3rd, 10:02 PM — 1:00 AM

Sea fog continues to reduce visibilities to around 1 mile with a few local spots reporting under mile at this hour. Dense sea fog will likely expand inland around midnight, when Dense Fog Advisories will likely be re-issued for all of coastal southeast Georgia and coastal northeast Florida before it expands westward across most of the area through late tonight and early Wednesday morning. Motorists should remain alert for sudden changes in visibility this afternoon, particularly along coastal roads such as A-1A in northeast Florida and U.S. Highway 17 in southeast Georgia. If you encounter sea fog while driving in these coastal locations this afternoon, slow down and leave extra distance ahead of you in case a sudden stop is needed.

About

Faver-Dykes State Park Campground offers a peaceful retreat under a shady hardwood hammock where generations of Floridians have lived, worked, and played. The campground features 30 sites that accommodate RVs up to 35 feet or tents, each equipped with electric and water hookups, an in-ground fire circle with grill, and picnic table. Natural vegetation buffers provide privacy between most sites. The campground sits along Pellicer Creek, one of the most pristine estuarine tidal marshes on Florida's east coast. This Florida Designated Paddling Trail offers paddlers the choice of heading east to Pellicer flats and the Matanzas River or west to the freshwater beginnings, with average depths of 2 to 6 feet. The creek provides abundant fishing opportunities for both salt and freshwater species. Located less than 15 miles south of historic St. Augustine, the park features nature trails connecting the campground to the day use area and a historic site at Hemming Point. The area is renowned for birding with over 100 species during spring and fall migrations, including wood warblers, eagles, falcons, wading birds, and wood storks. Wildlife viewing opportunities include deer, turkeys, hawks, bobcats, and river otters in the surrounding sandhill ecosystem and longleaf pine habitat.
